Dr. Lynn Westphal holds a medical degree from Stanford University. She did her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University of California, Los Angeles and Stanford University. Dr Westphal received fellowship training in Endocrinology-Molecular Biology from Stanford University and completed fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at University of California, San Francisco. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Westphal has served on the faculty at Stanford University since 1991. Her clinical and research interest include IVF techniques, fertility preservation and third party reproduction. Her interest in fertility preservation for cancer survivors led her to set up one of the first oocyte cryopreservation programs in the country in 1999. She was a recipient of a grant from the Breast Cancer Research Program to study “Chemotherapy induced ovarian damage: prevention and impact. Additional information.
 

Amin Milki, MD
Professor

Dr. Amin Milki completed his medical degree and his residency at the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon. He finished his post doctorate fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Stanford University. He has served on the Stanford University faculty since 1987 where he is Professor of OB/GYN. Dr. Milki’s research interests include infertility, Assisted Reproductive Technologies, and office hysteroscopy. He has published extensively on IVF techniques aimed at increasing success rates while minimizing multiple births, an area in which he has gained international reputation. Additional information.
 

Ruth B. Lathi, MD

Dr. Ruth Lathi received her Bachelors degree in Biology from M.I.T. and her Doctorate in Medicine from University of California, San Francisco. She completed her residency at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas in 2000 and her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Stanford University in 2003. She is board certified in obstetric and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Lathi has served on Stanford University’s faculty since 2000. Her clinical and research interest primarily regard infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss. This includes pregnancies after infertility, karyotypes of miscarriages, and unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss and immune changes. Additional information.
 

Valerie L. Baker, MD
Medical Director
Stanford Fertility and Reproductive Medicine In Vitro Fertilization Program

Dr. Valerie Baker received her medical degree from Harvard University. She completed residency in obstetrics and gynecology and fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California, San Francisco in 1995. She served on the faculty at UCSF and at the University of Washington before joining Stanford. Dr. Baker is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Her clinical and research interests include stimulation protocols in assisted reproductive technology, factors affecting success with fertility treatment, and potential reproductive effects of environmental contaminants. She is actively involved in national efforts to improve the quality of information available to patients about outcomes from infertility treatment.

Barry Behr, PhD, HCLD

Dr. Behr has been at Stanford since 1994. Dr. Behr received his Masters and PhD in the area of Reproductive Physiology from the University of Nevada-Reno and was among the first in the country to become board certified as a High Complexity Laboratory Director in Embryology and Andrology. He has been working in the area of Human IVF for over 20 years and has participated in many developments that have contributed to advances in the field of ART for which he is internationally recognized. He has over 150 peer reviewed journal articles and abstracts and is a sought after speaker. He is also involved in basic science and applied clinical research and collaborates with several departments on campus. Additional information.

Nurse Coordinators

Our Nurse Coordinators are Registered Nurses dedicated to assisting our patients with all their treatment needs. They create the treatment schedules for our patients and meet with them to review their initial treatment cycle plan. Our Nurses also teach our orientation and injection training classes and are great resource for all your questions through out your treatment cycle. You will also find our RNs in the procedure room assisting our physicians and anesthesiologist complete the preoperative check-list and getting them ready for the procedure as well as caring for our patients before, during and after the procedure.

Patient Care Coordinators

Our Patient Care coordinators are ancillary personnel well-informed in the field of infertility. They help create and communicate treatment schedules to our patients, according to Physicians directions. They triage phone calls, answer basic questions and refer other queries to Nurses or Physicians as appropriate. They assist our Nursing staff with all the clerical aspects of a treatment cycle.

Medical Assistants

Our Medical Assistants are medically trained ancillary personnel that perform a wide variety of functions within the clinic. They escort patients and prepare them for evaluations or treatment and assist Physicians with treatments and procedures. They support our Nursing staff in the delivery of patient care. The Medical Assistants also help our Physicians and Nurses schedule appointments, prepare lab requisitions and obtain results. They are also a resource our patients may access to receive answers for basic questions regarding their treatment cycle and clinic procedures.

Insurance Coordinator

Our Insurance Coordinators are specialized in all aspects of infertility coverage. They are able to assist our patients with financial matters through out their treatment cycle. They verify eligibility and benefits for patients before their consultations. Our Insurance coordinators are available to meet with our patients to review their insurance coverage and financials schedule after a treatment plan is selected. During a treatment cycle, the Insurance coordinators request authorization from insurance companies for visits and medications, as needed. They are also available to answer any questions regarding insurance coverage and treatment cost over the phone.

New Patient Coordinators

New patient coordinators schedule new patients with consultation appointments and answering all related questions. They also make sure we receive all required documents prior to the initial visit.

Clerical Staff

Our clerical staff includes our front desk/registration staff, medical records technician, and database coordinator. They assist our patients to check-in for their appointments, collect payments, compile patient charts, and enter relevant patient cycle information into our database.

Embryologists

The embryologists perform all aspects of the in vitro process from oocyte identification to preparation of embryos for transfer. This includes semen processing, insemination, ICSI, embryo assessment, PGD, cryopreservation, thawing, and more.

REI Lab Staff

The REI lab technicians perform phlebotomy, hormone and semen testing, and the additional preparation necessary for non-IVF procedures.
